Everything about Margaret Beaufort totally explained

Margaret Beaufort can mean:
  • Margaret Beaufort, Countess of Stafford (~1427-1474), the daughter of Edmund Beaufort, 1st Duke of Somerset (second creation), the mother of Henry Stafford, 2nd Duke of Buckingham, and the wife of Earl Stafford and Sir Richard Darrell. They are often confused with each other, since both had fathers who were titled First Duke of Somerset, and both had sons called Henry who were claimants to the throne in 1485 and 1483 respectively. They were first cousins, and their sons were second cousins.
There was also an older namesake member of the same family.
  • Margaret Beaufort, Countess of Devon (c. 1409 - 1449), the daughter of John Beaufort, 1st Earl of Somerset, the mother of both Thomas Courtenay, 14th Earl of Devon and John Courtenay, 15th Earl of Devon, wife of Thomas de Courtenay, 13th Earl of Devon.
